The Indonesian Biological Society and the Jenderal Soedirman University will host an International Symposium on Indonesian Biodiversity

After following the recent Indonesian development in Biological research and education, IBS has determined a central topic for its XV-Congress and XXII-National Seminar. One of the major issues is the building of a green economy that received little attention within the Indonesian development plan. This is where IBS believes that planning the national development sustainably and utilizing bioresources wisely are to be strongly recommended to the Indonesian Government. Therefore, issues concerning recent national development that is based on the exploitative economy, cause habitat changes and destruction leading to the extinction of precious Indonesian bioresources, is the main focus ofthis year's IBS seminar. The use of Indonesian bioresources has to be done in tandem with their long-lasting protection, which is based on comprehensive research to sustain the biosphere, including Indonesian people. Poorly recorded database of Indonesian biological diversity, and the lack of biodiversity and environmentally oriented education lead to the loss  of valuable bioresources; economically and ecologically. The lack of awareness towards Indonesia's biological resources within the biology education in the country itself also contributes to the problem of diminishing Indonesian bioresources; which is necessary to be addressed in the seminar. In relation to Indonesian biological resources studied by non-Indonesian researchers, IBS intends to bring this to an international level through a “Symposium on Indonesian Biodiversity,” which is expected to provide a forum to disseminate current findings. In summary,to discuss the current problems and be able to provide recommendations to the policy makers, the upcoming IBS seminar is concluded  into the theme of  “The roles of Biology in utilization of Indonesian bioresources to improve nation competitiveness”.
